Now through August 7th, 2010
gallery hours: Thurs-Fri 12-6pm, Sat 12-4pm
Branch Gallery 455 17th St, suite #301, Oakland, CA 94612
Hadley Williams explores the relationship between control and
flexibility in her work. Exploring mechanized order she creates
relaxed grids using machine made materials such as bubble wrap,
cashmere, orthodontic rubber bands, masking tape, correction tape,
foam rubber, thread, felt and tissue paper.
Pablo Manga uses transparent and semi-transparent adhesive tape to
make works that evoke both painting and drawing. His work is a
meditation on both the formal properties of the everyday material
from which it is made and the broader everyday world from which it is
drawn.

Introducing BayVAN’s first Nomatic Curatorial Project
Habitual Homesteaders
a two person exhibit of new work by Gina Tuzzi and Tyler Bewley
August 14th - September 19th, 2010
Reception: Saturday, August 14th 6-9pm
As a part of our exhibition programming BayVAN has launched our
Nomadic Curatorial Program, curated exhibits that happen outside of
the Branch Gallery walls. For our first exhibit we are proud to work
with the acclaimed Compound Gallery in Oakland, CA.
Habitual Homesteaders explores the idea of home through the notions
of mobility and adaptive ways of living. As in the past, modern day
homesteaders are in search of new strategies to lay down roots and
create environments conducive to life and growth. The two artists
chosen for the exhibit approach ideas of travel and home from
futurist, fanciful, nostalgic and pre-apocalyptic viewpoints.
Gina Tuzzi lives and works in Oakland, CA, she recently graduated
with an MFA from Mills College and was a nominee for the 2010 SECA
award.
Tyler Bewley received a degree from Skidmore College, his work has
been exhibited widely and can be found on international magazine
covers and local wine bottles. He is currently teaching art at Marin
Academy High School.
