BayVAN is now curating the lobby of the 555 12th St. building (the ASK building).  The first exhibit features works by Registry artists Alexander Cheves and Bianca Kolonusz-Partee.

On view thru July 15th.  Stop by to check it out - The lobby is open Monday-Friday 9-5pm. The work is also visible from the sidewalk  24 hrs a day….

Thanks to all who came out for the the BayVAN artist mixer and reception for Santiago Gervasi at DOMAIN last night.  Here is a link to some of the pics from the event. Thanks to DOMAIN for hosting and for ED from Funky Soul Stop records for spinning an amazing set of vinyl last night. 

The Kala Fellowship award is an international competition open to artists from the U.S. and around the world. Hosting nine new artists at Kala each year helps to ensure that the artistic energy and vision of Kala’s entire community of artists in residence is continually re-energized and rejuvenated.

Artists producing innovative work in book arts, electronic/digital media (video, sound, animation, etc.), installation art, social practice, photography, and printmaking are encouraged to apply. Fellowship Awards will be given based on conceptual creativity, originality and artistic excellence as well as technical knowledge.

Annually, the Fellowship Competition is juried by a panel comprised of Kala’s Directors and an outside Bay Area arts professional. Kala is pleased to announce Dr. Stephanie Hanor, Director of Mills College Art Museum as Kala’s invited Fellowship juror for the 2012 competition.

Jan Blythe was selected to be a resident artist at the Djerassi Resident Artist Program in Woodside, CA during the 2012 season. her stay will be in October/November

Neiman Marcus has purchased 8 paintings (4 of them commissioned) and 5 works on paper from artist Lisa Espenmiller for it’s permanent collection. The artwork, along with the work of other Bay Area artists, will hang in the new store in Walnut Creek, CA. The grand opening is March 9, 2012.

Rising Tide, the painting John Wehrle was working on during his November residency at the de Young Museum has been relocated to the South Gallery at the Richmond Art CenterHe be working there often (maybe including a few ringers and celebrity painters as well) from Jan 20 till March 9. We hope you all had a great time over the Holidays.  BayVAN was busy getting ready to launch the 2012 Artist Registry.  Curating the Registry is no easy task, we had to look through hundreds of submissions and make some hard choices in order to keep the Registry to a manageable number. 

We are excited to be working with so many talented Bay Area artists.
